As part of our warm up act for our Fall events we began organising casual summer Meetups to get the conversation going and build a community. While they started out small, a wide range of people have begun attending and participating in the discussions. In fact, the Meetups have become so popular that our room is at capacity, and there is now a wait list for our next one.
We began with Virtual Reality, watching a series of TED talks and having a great discussion.
Then we hosted a documentary night, watching Black Code, a 2016 documentary by Toronto-based filmmaker and cinematographer Nicholas de Pencier (Four Wings and a Prayer, Watermark) that examines the complex global impact that the internet has had on matters of free speech, privacy and activism.
And most recently we hosted an evening discussing AI, Superintelligence and the existential risk it can present:
